Avocado Oil is Awesome

Use Avocado oil to fry an egg.  You'll notice a subtle, rich taste to your egg. In my opinion it tastes better than the usual olive oil or butter.  Give it a try and let me know what you think by leaving a comment below.

Eat nutrient dense foods for better health

Having read the book "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, I decided to give his healthy eating style a try. (I eat really healthy already but I wanted to follow his regime precisely to see how it felt). I followed his program for 10 days and I lost 5 pounds But it's not the weight loss that excites me (I really don't need to lose weight), its the way I felt including a mindset that eating much more nutrient dense foods as a lifestyle can actually decrease risks of illness and slow aging. Terrific, I'll take that! Basically his philosophy is "eat a plant based diet". Not an easy thing for most of us to do. I did it for 10 days and think its a good lifestyle, especially the not eating animal protein and fat. I'm grateful that I've always loved fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains, and that I'm not interested in consuming white flour products or sweets. The experience of reading "Eat to Live" and going on the plan for a short time gives me more experience to help my clients eat better and get healthier. I love being "The Wellness Chef".

Eat to Live

                                  ScoringGuide
Run, don't walk, to your closest bookstore -  or click to your favorite on-line bookseller - and purchase "Eat To Live" by John Fuhrman, MD. He has become one of my healthy food gurus because he is brilliant in what he has to say and how he says it so clearly in the book.  It's time we all listen up.  Basically, he says what a lot of folks are saying now-a-days....that we as American's have been eating too much of the wrong foods, those being foods that are low in nutrients and high in calories.  He states a diet rich in nutrient dense foods with low calories helps us loose weight, feel better, avoid and even possibly reverse disease,  and live longer.  Get the book, read it and eat his way......live a better, longer life.   I do, and I will continue.

Eat Right, Stay Fit

The greatest and most beneficial health reform shall come when we regularly eat healthier foods. When the fast food craze began many years ago no one knew how badly it would effect our health. We are now seeing obesity, poor health and medical costs rising at an alarming rate due to the high percentage of processed, "empty" nutrient foods and lack of physical exercise. It's time to educate our people and make it easier for them to eliminate those low-nutrient, fatty, salty, sugary foods that have harmed our health. I began eating 6-8 servings a day of fruits and vegetables as a teenager, and now in my fifties, I am healthy, strong and energetic. I must attribute this to my regular intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains as well as the fact that I walk/jog/hike 20 miles a week. I encourage people of all ages and stages to eat fruits and vegetables regularly and partake in a minimum of four hours of moderate exercise every week. Just do it!  And if you need help or support doing it, please consider joining me in weekly walks/hikes and upper body lite weight work outs.

Food and Fitness

I admit it......I'm a foodie. I use to dislike that word thinking it was trendy and superficial but now I completely embrace it because it really describes me. I love food. I love buying it, organizing it in the kitchen cupboards and refrigerator, displaying it, cooking it, serving it to loved ones & clients, eating it and I even love cleaning up after it. I love good pots and pans, knives, farmers markets, the Food Channel on TV (although I don't watch it much....I'd rather be doing the cooking rather than watching someone else do it), my food processor and blender, all the toys and utensils I have and use to make things easy be it shredding, grinding, blending, straining, whatever. I'm not sure what came first....my love of food, or my love of fitness and exercise. This leads me to share how very passionate I am about staying fit and supporting others to do so as well. Because I love food and eat it often I suppose I could be overweight from all that. However, I admit I have always been a little vain, wanting to look good, to have a nice trim figure. Yes, it's true. To that end.....and trust me, I wasn't about to live my life on a diet, I have always partaken in regular and consistent exercise. The combination of good food and good exercise is clearly what keeps me healthy, happy and enjoying the two things I'm most passionate about -- food and fitness. I encourage you to eat well and stay fit. If you need encouragement or support getting on the path to better eating and regular exercise.....contact me.....I'm here for you. May you be healthy and happy.

The Secret to Great Health

I recently went on a three day juice feast cleanse. It really makes sense to cleanse our insides now and again. Perhaps we should place as much emphasis on internal cleansing as we do on external hygiene, such as brushing our teeth or washing our hands. If you are middle-aged, you’ve taken about 15,000 showers in your lifetime, and you’ve brushed your teeth close to 30,000 times. Still, you won’t stop doing that just because you’ve done it so many times. Here’s an interesting question: If you have to keep cleansing your skin and teeth daily, then wouldn't you think it makes equal sense to clean the inside of your body at least periodically?
The importance of internal cleansing can best be summed up in the words of Dr. Paul Bragg, one of the “fathers” of natural medicine in the U.S. and the author of dozens of highly successful health books:
“The secret to great health can be described in three words: Cleanse Your Body! Engrave these three words permanently in your memory.”
For my three day cleanse I used the Izo Cleanze. It was clearing and healing on many levels. I highly recommend it. Please visit: http://www.izocleanze.com/

Breathing in the New Year

We are living in fast times and 2008 isn't going to slow down. We who are "plugged in" can get bombarded with information. Just how we assimilate this information is important. My curious mind can spend hours gathering information then using that information...so it seems my mind is a busy place. (Not to mention how easy it is to get side tracked here on the wonderful World Wide Web.) I resolve in the New Year to be mindfully focused on my priorities. One way I do that is by using my Outlook Calendar to organize my day, giving my priorities attention. A huge priority in my life is health in body, mind and spirit. Stress can take its toll on the mind and body so as the New Year begins I intend to manage stress carefully by feeding myself (and those around me) only the healthiest of foods and positive experiences. Meditating, jogging to the beach and back and being spiritually aware are important ways for me to manage stress too, along with getting lots of fresh air. This brings me to the best quick fix stress buster. Breathing. Let us remember to really breath! Conscious breathing can relieve stress. Breath deep and smile. Try it right now......breath in through your nose for a count of 5, hold it for 2, breath out like you are blowing through your mouth for a count of 7. Repeat three times. Feel better? Good. May we all be well, happy and free from the aches and pains of stress.
